Stepping into 2008 in a "mind-full" fashion (Ha! One can be funny in the midst of subzero temps!), I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and to thank Adam for inviting me to be a guest blogger this month. I'm thrilled to be here. I just began a new appointment at the Indiana University-Bloomington School of Law in 2007, and my research interests (broadly defined) focus on law and emotion. I have written most recently on the effects of capital trials and executions on murder victims' families (having done my dissertation research on the effects of McVeigh's execution on Oklahoma City family members and survivors, a shortened summary of which is posted here) and on issues relating to how courts actually do and should accommodate the intersection of pain and empathy in personal injury trials (posted here, here, and here). In my next research projects, I will continue to write about emotion in the death penalty context, but am also planning to begin an article soon on emotion, law, and assisted reproductive technologies. I'm looking forward to exploring these and other issues in my future posts this month.
Thanks Jody. Welcome!
You've reminded me that some readers may be interested in learning more about the upcoming oral arguments in Baze, a major death penalty lethal injection case. Here is a link to some links:
