The CBC radio program, Ideas, is running a 5-part series on memory this week entitled, "The Once and Future Past" (see here). I was interviewed for the series (over a year ago), so I suspect that I'll be on the program at some point this week. Here's the opening blurb from the CBC website:
Memory. You rely on it to ride your bicycle or learn a language. It makes your life cohere from moment to moment. And though you take it for granted when you're young, you certainly worry about losing it when you get older. But what is memory really and how does it function? The answer, of course, depends on whom you ask. Aristotle called memory "the scribe of the soul". Freud replaced "soul" with the "subconscious" and tied memory to pathology. Well, the latest kids on the block have their own terms. Neuroscientists are revolutionizing the way we regard memory.
UPDATE: Here's a link to listen live to CBC Radio One for free. The program starts at 9pm Eastern time.
